The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust run transformational programmes that are led by world-class athlete mentors, for young people who are facing adversity. They help build confidence in young people in their skills and strengths and connect them with their local community through hands-on practical social action.
Our multi-year funding supported the ‘On Track to Achieve' programme, which worked with 11–19-year-old young women. These included children with social workers, children with a pupil premium status, children with social and emotional health challenges and those who are harder to engage. Delivered in school, athlete mentors worked with students to improve confidence, resilience, and wellbeing, equipping them with a winning mindset that’s ready to achieve.
So far, the results have shown 64% of participants reporting an improvement in their self-belief and teachers reporting a 67% increase in pupils’ confidence.
The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust said “The funding provided by St. James Place Charitable Foundation has allowed us to target young women in schools through our 'On Track to Achieve' programme, offering a safe space to work on the challenges facing young women and girls today, and creating opportunities to focus on their physical and mental wellbeing in a no-judgement environment”.
