EFTC’s vision is for all young people to access quality education and rewarding employment.

Education for the Children is a charity working in Jocotenango, Guatemala since 2003, helping disadvantaged young people to break the cycle of poverty through education. Through its School of Hope and Higher Education Programme, they provide education, nutrition, healthcare, psychological support, and career guidance, enabling students to overcome barriers and build brighter futures.

A two-year grant was awarded in 2024 to enable EFTC to deliver and expand their support for more than 220 young people aged 16 to 30 to access high school and university education. The funding covers essential costs such as tuition, books, transport, and wellbeing support, ensuring students can stay in education and succeed.

The impact has been significant, with over 92% of students staying in high school and 88% reaching university, while 94% of final-year students graduated. Confidence has been boosted, students have developed resilience and now have long-term aspirations. Many have gone on to secure jobs earning above the national wage or progress into further education.

“My happiness and achievements are the result of everything you have done for me. I feel there aren’t enough words to express my gratitude.”
