With gynaecological cancers on the rise, year-long NHS waiting lists and three times more people reaching out to cancer charity The Eve Appeal, we are pleased to have recently awarded the charity with a three-year major grant.
The Eve Appeal is primarily a research charity, looking into the five main types of gynaecological cancers: ovarian, vaginal, vulval, cervical, and womb. They also provide support for those diagnosed with these cancers, or who are experiencing symptoms that might be caused by them. Last month we were delighted to award the multi-year grant to part fund their nurse-led cancer information service.
Calum Coker Deputy Head of Fundraising at The Eve Appeal shared:
“Today, 60 women and people with gynae organs in the UK will hear the devastating news they have a gynaecological cancer and thousands more will have questions or concerns about their gynae health. Demand for our Ask Eve nurse-led information service has skyrocketed over the past few years, with the service the busiest it has ever been. Our Ask Eve nurse service is here for every one of these people. It provides free, confidential, and expert support, over the phone, via email, and through our website. This vital funding from St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation ensures that our Ask Eve nurse can continue to provide this service for everyone, everywhere, whenever they need it.”
- Almost 600,000 people are waiting for gynaecological treatment, an increase of a third over two years.
- The average wait time to see an NHS gynaecologist after a routine referral has tripled over the past decade, with over 33,000 women waiting more than a year.
- The number of people contacting Ask Eve tripled in 2024 compared to 2023
