Parenting Mental Health (PMH) is one of the few UK charities focused on supporting parents and carers of children and young people with mental health challenges. Their needs are often overlooked, yet they are the most critical anchors supporting young people navigating anxiety, depression, self-harm, and other complex emotional struggles.

In 2024, a small grant from the Foundation enabled PMH to offer targeted, therapeutic support to 66 parents, equipping them with compassionate, connection-based approaches that reduce distress, strengthen parent-child relationships, and build family resilience. These programmes help parents move from isolation and crisis to greater confidence, calm, and hope. This improves outcomes not only for the parents themselves, but also for the young people in their care.

This quote from a participant reflects the long-lasting, transformative power of this support:

“This life changing support and the PMH community were established because one mum and her family were prepared to share their suffering in all its rawness and use it to help others. That help has become a tidal wave of change for thousands of parents and children. But perhaps most significant are the countless quiet ripples of change that might go unseen as the compassionate approach spreads through our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren…thank you.”
