We recently awarded funding to Young Lewisham Project (YLP) to help them put meals on the table for the young people they support.
YLP aims to improve life chances for disadvantaged young people by increasing their practical skills and knowledge in a range of areas to give them the best start as they move into adulthood. As well as giving young people the opportunity to gain vocational qualifications, much of their work is based on soft skills and getting young people to participate, communicate and improve their mental and physical health.
Over the next 3 years we’ve pledged £30,000 to YLP to help fund their 'Grub Club'. Every day the Grub Club provides breakfast and a hot home-cooked lunch for their groups. Young people are involved in all aspects of the project, helping to plan the daily menus and cook lunch while at the same time they can gain an OCN Level 1 or 2 in cooking. With the rising cost of living and many of the families already in poverty, the Grub Club is an essential service for many and currently supports around 300 young people regularly.
